Welcome to our International Students.
On the 11 July 2022, the Australian Borders were opened to International students following a long COVID closure. At the beginning of term 3, 17 new international students started their Kawana experience. These students came from Germany, Italy, Denmark, Brazil and Norway, thus bringing the total number of International Students to 18 on the secondary campus and 2 on the primary campus.
Surfing lessons
One key component to living on the Sunshine Coast and attending Kawana Waters State College is the proximity to the beach and access to world class aquatic facilities. Newly arrived students at the college are taking full advantage of the beautiful weather and calm sea conditions to learn how to surf. All students are educated in the dangers associated with swimming in the ocean when they first arrive at the college and complete a water safety program.
Tutoring
As students commence and continue their studies, they have found that their stress in achieving academically has been relieved by the opportunity to access specialist academic support. This support is coordinated through the application of an English language test during their orientation, as well as careful consultation with classroom teachers. International Students at Kawana are expected to do their best in all their studies. Each term the top international student in each year level is presented with an academic award. Most faculties offer after-school tutoring for all students attending Kawana Waters State College.
Excursions
While at Kawana Waters State College students will have an opportunity to participate in subject area excursions, depending on their course of study. These may include: GOMA Art excursion in Brisbane, football competitions or Fraser Island.
Excursions allow International Students to experience different locations around Australia during their EQI program. These excursions are optional and are an additional cost.
