Year 10, 11 & 12 Program
CURRICULUM STRUCTURE
• Courses of study are divided into semester (half-year) units.
• Students in Year 10, 11 & 12 will choose a maximum of six (6) units per semester.
• Subject choice is provided, within the limitations of school staff and facilities. Courses can be chosen for a specialised or general education between or within various areas of learning.
• There will be various types of courses in Year 10, 11 & 12 which consist of 6 levels:
• YEAR 10 - (LEVEL 3 UNITS). Outcomes-based education courses structured to achieve a sound general education.
• YEAR 10 SENIOR VET FOUNDATION or OP PREPARATORY SUBJECT or OP SUBJECT - (LEVEL 5 UNITS).
The subject is a higher-level Year 10 subject designed to prepare the student for studies in Levels 6, 7 and 8 or commence the first semester of an OP subject.
(c) OP SUBJECT – (LEVEL 6 and 7 UNITS). The subject appears on the Senior Certificate and CONTRIBUTES TO THE CALCULATION OF OVERALL POSITION (OP) for Tertiary Entrance and is based on state wide syllabus documents.
(d) VOCATIONAL EDUCATION and TRAINING (VET) COURSES AND COMPETENCIES - (LEVEL 8 UNITS). The Certificate or completed competencies appear on the Senior Certificate. Most of these courses lead to nationally recognised VET Certificates. They can be used in ranking for Tertiary Entrance. THEY DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS AN OP.
(e) SCHOOL SUBJECT - (LEVEL 9 UNITS). The course will be offered for a SINGLE SEMESTER OR MORE but do not appear on the Senior Certificate . SOME ARE WORK RELATED.
5. Some Level 8 courses have dual accreditation with a TAFE. Students will receive two sets of certificates. Details will be advised at counselling and need not effect the selection process.
6. Students choosing to study Level 8 certificate courses may be required to work flexible hours. Students choosing to study more than one Level 8 VET certificate courses may participate in Work Placement each term and need only select 5 subjects, as the sixth subject is Work Education / Work Placement.
