Why Homework is necessary

There are 2 types of homework:
Set Homework: This is work that has been set by the class teacher and should be completed for the day and period for which it has been set. Assignments are part of set homework.
Study Homework: During this time, work should be revised and learnt. Research and preparation for assignments should be undertaken. Spelling should be practised. Preparation should be made for future lessons.
Students are encouraged to develop regular patterns of study, spread over at least five days
of the week. Besides completing any set exercises or assignments, students should regularly review the work covered in class. This form of revision is essential in any serious study program because:
a)               the student can become aware of any work not well understood and approach the teacher
for additional explanation;
b)              longer periods of time may be required to build a mastery of more difficult subject-matter;
c)               retention of learned materials is, for most people, achieved only by learning and reviewing several times.

The following are suggested hours of study:
Year 8:       5 to 8 hours per week
Year 9/10:   2 hours each night (about 10 hours each week)
Senior:        3 hours each night with additional time over the weekend
